Timing Means Nothing

Timing means nothing. Yeah, I said it. Timing means nothing…and although the concept is hard to swallow, if you keep reading you’ll understand how I can make that statement with such confidence. Nevertheless, I will give you that although timing is acute to our success in life – it’s not the be-all-end-all to what you will accomplish in your life.

Timing is defined as a particular point in time where something happens. It is the element that makes things worthwhile. It is the point when things tend to go awesomely spectacular, or incredibly erroneous. Timing is the crossroads between the valuable commodity of time and the pinnacle of opportunity. I mean, what could be more important than timing?

We can definitely agree that there are cases where situations have been both favorable and unfavorable due strictly to timing. However, even though we know this to be the case, we must broaden our perspective and consider a more critical point. Ponder this: the only thing that is more important than timing is time itself.

Time controls everything we do. It controls everything we hope to accomplish – or not accomplish. It controls everything we will accomplish – or will not accomplish. There’s no doubt that time has the potential to hold us hostage. But there is a better way.

Learning how we can use time’s monopoly of power and control to our advantage pays huge dividends. Here’s how. While timing is a certain point in time, the overall time that you possess is unknown. By working on ourselves to better our personal capabilities and our emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual strength, we control time.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  1. What areas do I need to improve in?
  2. How can I improve them?
  3. How can I devise a plan to measure my progress?
  4. Who can hold me accountable for my positive change?

Think of it this way…when it’s all said and done your ability to improve and grow stronger will be the determining factor to whether you make it to the next phase of your life.  A beautiful quote from the late Whitney Moore Young Jr. sums it up so well. He said, “It’s better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one than to have an opportunity and not be prepared.”

Remember, timing means nothing unless you are making good use of your time.
