The New Year brings a chance for each of us to reach new goals. Let’s take a moment to make sure we put our best foot forward. In Life Coaching, we focus on achieving lasting results. One of the ways we achieve these results is that we focus on S.M.A.R.T Goals. Today, I will explain a little about S.M.A.R.T Goals in order to help you achieve more than you ever have before.
S stands for Specific. Specificity is the key to achieving any worthwhile goal. We have to be specific about goals in order to give them definition. Defining our goals allows us to quantify them. If you wanted to lose weight, you would put a specific number to the weight to define your goal. Example, instead of saying…I want to lose weight. A specific goal would be…I will lose 10 pounds.
M stands for Measurable. We want to measure our progress to keep ourselves on track as we strive to reach our new goal. In Coaching, we check in each week to see how we are progressing to keep ourselves accountable and to make necessary changes if we are not hitting our mark.
A stands for Achievable. I know the familiar adage is that you can do anything that you put your mind to. We believe this to be true in many cases, but when we are setting goals we want to make sure all our goals are achievable. By this, we mean something you are actually capable of doing.
R stands for Realistic. Our goals need to be realistic. This is something you can do even though you have other responsibilities and time restrictions in your busy life.
T means Time-Limited. Schedule it. Put a date on it. One of the most important things you can do to any goal is to put a time table as to when you would like to achieve it. This gives you power and sets your destination for obtaining your goals.
Goals give you direction in life. When you set your goals, your life immediately becomes associated with positive direction. Therefore, one of the easiest things you can do for yourself this New Year is set some Goals. With the information you now have, you are smarter about setting S.M.A.R.T Goals. Remember, achieving goals will be the only difference between 2014 and 2015. You have the information, so now it’s time to take action. ~Be Inspired and Live You! Coach Dwayne L.
