I need you to teach me…

Who was your favorite high school teacher?  What about college?  Most of the time, we have that one favorite teacher that made the biggest difference in our lives.  But as we progress in life, even though we may not keep in contact with our favorite teachers, we adopt something else in life that becomes our ultimate life teacher. I believe that we all have that one special life teacher in life.  We all have that something in our life to teach us life itself.

These life teachers teach us structure, discipline, skills, how to achieve, how to make friends, when to get rid of friends…it teaches us everything.  These life teachers are the pillars of life that allow us to grow in our lives to be the best we can be, by being the person we were meant to be.

I’ll use a scenario that hits home for most of us.  Think of your job.  Your job teaches you that you need to learn certain things simply because you are working in that position.  You learn things that the job requires.  It doesn’t stop there…if you workout, you are learning something.  Workouts teach us to be stronger, go further – to push ourselves both physically and mentally to get stronger.

It could be anything. It could be baking, biking, singing, coaching, or painting!  Anything!  Whatever is in your life, you are learning something from it. It’s time to harness it.  Harness that discipline that you have learned and follow your path.  Discipline in life make us better versions of ourselves.  That is the only way we grow.  It’s the only way we become better than we were last year, last month, last week.  Here are some questions to ask yourself:

1.  What and who are the life teachers in my life?

2.  What disciplines am I learning?

3.  How can I apply what I’m learning to other areas of my life?

There is a plethora of things to learn that make us effective in the life we are meant to lead.  Everyone’s life is different.  Everyone has a different path to the same end.  Your journey is your journey – own it, live it, do it.  Your inclinations toward activities that please you, or bring you joy are teaching you much more than simply how to do that particular thing.  They are teaching you skills and discipline that you can leverage for a greater purpose in your life!

Remember, life has many teachers, and what you love in life will teach you how to love life.
