Principles of Life…

I’ve written about how life has taught us lessons. I’ve also written about the lessons you’ve learned based on the disciplines that you perform in life. Today, I want to talk about the people that actually teach you the ways of life.

People are important in life because they add value. And the more important they are, the more value they add to your life. People provide value in your life not because of the merchandise they have, but because of the principles they teach. Here are three principles that I have been taught that I use every day to make a difference in the people I meet.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

This is known as the Golden Rule. It also is a timeless principle that transcends generations. It’s an easy concept to learn, but not always easy to apply. The reason for this is mainly because of different people’s personalities. Everyone is different, and should have the freedom to be so. To apply The Golden Rule to your life, you have to keep an open mind, and not take things too seriously. This allows you the freedom you so richly deserve, and also gives you the best life possible because of the Golden Rule.

Love the people who are in your life.

This principle is particularly important when it comes to your family. You can chose your friends, but you have no choice when it comes to who is born into your family, or what family you are born into. There is no secret trick to applying this principle. Just remember the old adage that my Grandmother taught me…charity spreads at home, and spreads abroad.

Know when it’s time.

There is a time for everything. A time to be strong, a time for weakness, a time to be patient and a time for action. What separates the successful people from the unsuccessful people is the ability to apply this principle. Life is made of time, and understanding time permits you to make the most out of your life.

Practice these principles with strength and patience. If you do, you will find tremendous reward in your life.
